A 25-year-old woman has died after being “stabbed and run over outside her home”.
Emergency services were called to reports the victim had been seriously injured in Tamworth, Staffs, at 1.25am on Friday.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the young woman, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man also suffered injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Neighbours said they’d heard another neighbour had claimed the woman was killed after being stabbed and run over by a car outside her home.
A woman, who lives on the estate, said: “It was pretty harrowing. I’m told she was attacked, possibly stabbed, before being run over.
“They found her lying in the street and nothing could be done to save her.”
Another neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It’s awful, a woman’s been killed who had her whole life ahead of her.”
He added: “I saw his car being taken away this morning.
“Our thoughts are with the family and that they get justice.
“It’s a tragic loss of such a young life.”
Staffordshire Police said a murder probe was underway.
The force later said a 27-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murdering the 25-year-old woman.
The suspect, from Tamworth, remains in police custody being quizzed by detectives.
A force spokesperson earlier said: “A murder investigation has been launched after a woman died in Tamworth.
“At 1.25am this morning, police were called to reports that a 25-year-old woman had been seriously injured on Bingley Avenue.
“Despite the best efforts of emergency services staff, the woman sadly died at the scene.
“A man, from Tamworth, is currently in hospital receiving treatment.
“The woman’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called by police at 1.37am to an assault in Bingley Avenue, Tamworth.
“We sent three ambulances, two paramedic officers and the MERIT emergency doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.
“On arrival, crews found a woman with life-threatening injuries and worked quickly to administer advanced trauma care to the patient.
“Sadly, despite best efforts, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
“A second patient, a man, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for further assessment.”
